Student Athlete Of The Week for December 16, 2011
Olivia Rush
Eugene High School
This young lady epitomizes the "student athlete". Her involvement in school and community activities is endless. She is the type of person who is an asset to whatever organization that she is involved with. She gives her heart and soul without question. With all of her activities, she is still able to maintain a tremendous grade point average. She excels in the classroom as well as on the basketball court and made vast improvement in her golf game, after playing only one year. She is a VERY personable girl, and one who no doubt will succeed at whatever she sets her mind to. I am proud to nominate such a deserving student/athlete. Getting to be involved with students like Olivia make teaching such a rewarding profession.

Sloan Clinic Student Athlete Of The Week for December 2, 2011
Student Athlete: Krista Haslag
Helias Catholic, 3.93 GPA, Senior
Sports/Activities: Volleyball 4 years, Basketball 4 years, Track 1 year
Awards/Achievements: Krista was First Team All-District and All-Region in 2010 and 2011 in volleyball. She is First Team All-State Volleyball in 2011. She was Academic All-State in volleyball in 2010 and will be again this year. She was voted to the All-Tournament teams for volleyball at West Plains, Lebanon and Quincy. She has set numerous single season and career records at Helias. She was co-captain of the volleyball team.
Reason for nomination: Krista is a great athlete, particularly in volleyball. She may be an even better student. Given the demands of today's athletes, keeping an almost straight A GPA is amazing to me especially at a school with high academic standards like Helias Catholic. Krista is one of the most competitive athletes I have ever coached. She competes in the classroom the same way she does on the court. She gives you everything she has and also makes the players around her better by constantly encouraging and pushing her teammates.
Plans after graduating: Krista has signed to play volleyball at Missouri S & T and plans to get her degree in engineering.
